Blogging as a writer

What do I get out of blogging?

Well, it gives me a place to lay out my methods which I hope will be of use to other writers. I can rant about some of the crap advice I’ve been given. I can post samples of my fiction. I can ask the opinion of other writers before getting too bogged down in a new project. Or I can just show off to an audience, something I never had the chance to do before the internet.

Having a blog to help me with my writing is one of the best things I’ve ever done. What do you get out of your blog? Let us know in the comments.

  1. I get similar things out of my blog as you, really. I can share my fiction (though I haven’t done that quite yet), I can share my views on writing and other topics that are of interest of me and most of all, I can write.
I can write and have my voice be heard; find people who have similar interests as I do and converse with them. In the end, it’s a blogging community and I try to be a part of it.

    • The community part is what makes it.
Many communities are self perpetuating too. It’s a bit “black hat” but an organised community can be a huge help in getting noticed. Still, the important thing is to enjoy your blog as much as you enjoy the blogs of others.

      • Exactly. Communities can be a great help, but enjoying your blog is the most important part. :)

  2. So far, my blog is place where I share my short stories.

Will enjoy coming here to learn. And to get coffee, which I’m sure will be provided soon.

    • Oh there’s always coffee. And if there isn’t, you can start a blog about the lack thereof.

  3. I have found that blogging is a very good “boot up the backside”. If I don’t post I get the guilts. The blogroll rolls down the sidebar and I get the “everyone else is posting, what’s wrong with me?” feeling. Very motivational. I’ve blogged with Blogger in the past and have just started a new venture with WordPress. It seems I need the stern gaze of PC Blog in order to keep me on track. Plus there’s the bonus that someone might actually read it…

    • I agree. And along with helping you to stay motivated, I find that seeing what others are writing about helps with those times when you can’t think of a topic to cover. It all helps to keep you on the ball.
